A water park is the part of a summer holiday that children look forward to most, eagerly waiting for that most exciting day when they can grab a float and whizz down the water slide. But one person’s excitement can mean another person’s headache. We all know it is one of the great challenges of parenting: in summer, water parks are packed, parking spaces are hard to find while the sun melts the ice cream you bought to cool everyone down – along with your patience.

It is called Paleo Water Park and unlike a typical water park in Croatia, it has a story that keeps children interested even after they leave the water – a story about dinosaurs that really did walk along this coast.
The youngest visitors at Paleo Water Park have their own shallow pool, calm enough for those first steps into the water without a parent having to hold their hand every second.
Next to the pool, there is a sandbox where children can dig for dinosaur bone replicas like little palaeontologists, as well as a children’s playroom housed in spacious igloos.
Through creative workshops and play, it is easy to spend an hour or two here, while the rest of the family enjoys the nearby pool or relaxes on a sun lounger.
Older children and teenagers will usually make a beeline for the water slide shaped like a dinosaur footprint, then go down it again and again as water splashes in every direction. Next to the main dinosaur-shaped pool, there is also a hydromassage pool for those moments when it is time to slow things down.
Depending on the children’s ages and your family’s pace, it is easy to spend half a day at Paleo Water Park, from a morning swim to an afternoon of play.
And if they love it – which we are sure they will – you can send them off to burn off the rest of their energy at the nearby Mini Disco Club in the evening.
We said this water park is different from the others, here’s why. The story behind Paleo Water Park is not fictional, and that is exactly what sets it apart from other water parks in Istria. In Colona Bay near Bale, dinosaur fossils were discovered beneath the sea in the 1990s, making it the only known underwater dinosaur fossil site in the Mediterranean.
Today, that story runs throughout the park, from the shape of the pools and water slide to the Timeline Path, which takes visitors on a journey through 550 million years of Earth’s history, with life-sized dinosaur replicas along the way. It is the kind of experience children remember for longer than the swimming itself, turning what might seem like an ordinary summer activity into a little journey into the past.

Entry is free of charge for Mon Perin guests, while the park is also open to visitors from outside the camp.
During the pre- and post-season, Paleo Water Park is closed, as are other facilities connected to the main summer season, such as Fresh Market & Farm and the children’s animation programme. Saltwater Oasis Wellness & Spa for adults remains open for longer, but that is a different story for a different kind of holiday.
Alongside Paleo Water Park, children can enjoy plenty of other activities at the campsite in summer: a free panoramic train that travels around the resort, a floating water park at two beaches, five children’s playgrounds across both camp zones and an open-air cinema above the sea – more than enough to make sure there is never a dull day.
