Coastal battery Caluzzi

The Caluzzi coastal battery was part of the Austro-Hungarian defence system, positioned 38.37 meters above sea level, north of the San Benedetto coastal battery. It was built between 1902 and 1904. Materials used for its construction included processed stone from local quarries, concrete, and reinforced concrete. The defensive embankments were built using a combination of earth and stone. Tre trench was carved into solid rock.
The fortification consists of a basement, ground floor, and two levels. It was equipped with four coastal mortars and two coastal cannons. Its strategic location allowed for effective surveillance and defence against naval attacks. In 1945, the battery suffered significant damage due to bombing, and further deterioration occurred due to uncontrolled stone removal.
