Bale and its surroundings are rich in cultural and historical heritage, with four fortresses located in and around the campsite.
Built in 1904 by the Austro-Hungarian Navy, Fort Forno was originally a key defensive structure designed to protect Pula from naval attacks.
Perched atop Paravia Hill, 56 meters above sea level, these two fortresses – Fort Paravia East and Fort Paravia West – were constructed to defend the area from land-based attacks.
As part of the Austro-Hungarian defence system, Paravia Untertritt is a fully underground structure originally built as a barracks for up to 500 soldiers.
The coastal battery of San Benedetto was a key fortification protecting the Pula region.
Boulevard World Genius in Bale is a unique outdoor gallery, stretching along a five-kilometre path from the centre of Bale to the coast. This exhibition features monumental sculptures crafted from Istrian stone, dedicated to some of the greatest minds in human history. Among them are Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Leonardo da Vinci, Marie Curie, Charles Darwin, Galileo Galilei, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and many others. The sculptures were created by students from art academies in Venice, Bologna, Milan, Turin, Rijeka, and Zagreb.
